Anchor in the Storm by Sarah Sundin

The only bad thing I can ever say about a Sarah Sundin book is that I hate to wait for the next one! She does a wonderful job of paying attention to details and being historically accurate while weaving together an intriguing tale. Anchor in the Storm more than lived up to the high expectations I have for all of Sarah Sundin's books and I am already looking forward to Book 3 in the Waves of Freedom series.

Arch and Lillian are the two main characters for this second book in the Waves of Freedom series and each one has something about them that makes them leery to pursue anything that might resemble a relationship. Arch is always questioning a woman's intentions and whether or not they are interested in him as a man or the wealth and status synonymous with his family's name. While Lillian is an intelligent woman she has much to learn about herself and others and like Arch she often wonders if people see her as a woman or as someone with a physical ailment. I always thoroughly enjoy the intrigue in Sarah Sundin's novels and this one will have you reading well into the night to see what happens next as Lillian and Arch have to work together to figure it out!

About the book:

Anchor in the Storm (Revell, May 2016)

One plucky female pharmacist + one high-society naval officer = romance-and danger

For plucky Lillian Avery, America's entry into World War II means a chance to prove herself as a pharmacist in Boston. The challenges of her new job energize her. But society boy Ensign Archer Vandenberg's attentions only annoy---even if he is her brother's best friend.

During the darkest days of the war, Arch's destroyer hunts German U-boats in vain as the submarines sink dozens of merchant ships along the East Coast. Still shaken by battles at sea, Arch notices his men also struggle with their nerves---and with drowsiness. Could there be a link to the large prescriptions for sedatives Lillian has filled? The two work together to answer that question, but can Arch ever earn Lillian's trust and affection?

Sarah Sundin brings World War II to life, offering readers an intense experience they won't soon forget.
