My 10 Year High School Reunion

The weekend before Labor Day Allan and I took off to Lake Martin for my 10 Year High School Reunion. I graduated in a class of 37 and was honored to be voted class president our senior year. Our committee of three planned a quiet afternoon at a classmate's lake house for all of us to enjoy a low key day with each other. We grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, rode on the boat, and relaxed in the water on floats while catching up.

Allan and I also got to spend Friday night and Saturday night at the lake house with friends. We took off Friday night in the boat to go to dinner and the bottom fell out. There's nothing quite like a party of ten soaking wet showing up at the restaurant! The classmate who was kind enough to host us for the weekend has been my friend since we were five and met on the first day of kindergarten. There were four of us at the reunion that have gone to school together since kindergarten and I sincerely hope I will still be friends when them when we are old and gray.

Notice the two different colors of Allan's shirt
Saturday night we celebrated the engagement of one of my classmates and decided on the spur of the moment to do a fantasy football league together. By the time I finally fell asleep I was exhausted and not ready for the weekend to be over. After breakfast the next morning we were back on the road headed home to the dogs and back to the real world!

Are you still friends with anyone from high school?

  1. I am still close friends with a handful of people from high school (my 5 year is this year, but I can't see them going anywhere anytime soon :)

  2. wow 37, thats just crazy! I think we had 390! Your reunion sounded awesome, I love small get togethers that are relaxing like that!

  3. I can't believe you had 37 in graduating high school class - that's crazy! Sounds like a fun time - I haven't gone back to any of my reunions (I know, shame on me), but I am still friends with people from high school and college!

  4. How fun and intimate! My high school graduating class was about 100 I think? We're actually squaring away our reunion details and I'm amazed as to how many people I've kept in touch with. The immediate friends, since elementary school I am still super close with -- it's the best feeling having your friends as family. Looking back on all we've been through, survived etc. Makes the friendship that must stronger:)

Glad you had fun! You're gonna have to elaborate on that boating experience though. Sounds gnarly!!

  5. I'm not very close with anyone from HS anymore. Granted, I also graduated in a class of 260+ people and more of my friends were in the grades above and below mine. My 25th HS reunion is this coming summer and it's going to be a huge affair - pre-parties, country club, golfing (I don't golf), dinner and dancing at one of the local colleges. I would much rather just go hang out with the 10 or so people I still talk to on a regular basis :)

  6. What a perfect high school reunion! Wow, that is a small class - my high school graduation class was 1100 kids!

My twin sister and I have been best friends with twins we met in 3rd grade - going on almost 35 years of friendship!

  8. What a small class but I am sure that makes it easier to remember most of your classmates. I am still friends with lots of people from high school. I have reconnected with lots of people on Facebook as well. Glad you had a great time!

  9. how awesome that you got to experience the reunion! i have been terrible at keeping in touch with my HS friends. this past april i went home and they were all running their first marathon so I met up with them but it just felt awkward because we were all going in so many different paths which is great! i was so happy for them but i just felt like we were so different now. it was a weird experience...so great to see them...but sad to realize how different we all were now!

  10. oh my gosh sounds like a fun time and love that you were president of your small class! I graduated with around 200 or so. My 10 year will be next year, but I don't know if I would go or not. I'm still close w/all of my hs friends (there's a core group who have been friends since elementary school!) but I don't know that I care to see most other people if I'm not still friends w them. It always seems like the bigger the class, the more drama at the high school reunion bc it turns into a "let me one up you" competition. No thanks to that :)

  11. That does sound like fun!!!! Unfortunately, I'm only FB friends with old hs friends. I don't see anyone anymore at all. We moved to the state when I was 14, so I always kind of felt like an outsider. But I am super close to some college friends! ;)

  13. Sounds like a great time! I still occasionally talk to people from high school but we aren't really good friends anymore. It's amazing that you are still friends with people you went to kindergarten with!

  16. Fun! I am friends with only a few people from high school and only see them occasionally as I live across the country now! ;) I can't wait to hear that boat story in person!!!

  19. Very cool that you still talk to/are friends with someone from kindergarden! My oldest friend I met in the 4th grade and we still chat on a biweekly basis.

Also, I am from a class of 53. I talked to a lot of kids while in HS but never really hung out with too many (extremly shy). It wasn't until after our 20 yr reunion that I've become friends with a few more...

  20. how great that you're still in touch with so many! i had a small class to (50ish) but i'm only in touch with a handful. what an awesome weekend!

  21. 37 in your graduating class? Wow! I had 850!! I still keep in touch with a lot of friends I was close to then; you sort of form friendships with a school that large based on what your common interests were, so I have a lot of swimmer and runner friends :). So fun that you had such a great time! :)
