To Hang and To Hold

Months ago I won a fancy medal hanger from a giveaway and upon its arrival I tore it open like it was a Christmas present, contemplated where to put it, and then sat it in my closet. I stare at this thing every day and it's taken me months to commit to a spot where I want to display my medals. Shortly after winning the medal hanger I won a bib holder and it too was torn into like a Christmas present and then sat aside while I contemplated their spot in the house.

I just love how they look next to each other!

Yesterday I wanted to drill holes in the wall like Allan has for his blasted surround sound and new TV finally decided where the perfect spot would be for my medal hanger and bib holder and away I went. Armed with the drill and the hammer I set to work and within 15 minutes had both on the wall. Then I added the bibs and medals and stepped back to admire their new spot in the house. My medals no longer hang on the inside of the doorknob of the hall closet where they rattle every time I go to grab a jacket. My race bibs no longer take over the bulletin board in the laundry room.

My 1/2 marathon is holding my medal from my first half

The four bibs not on the hangers had oddly spaced holes
I'm pretty happy with their spots in the hall and the best part-I can see both from our bed when I look into the hall. If that's not motivation to get up and run I don't know what is! I almost forgot to explain the reason I chose "Always Earned Never Given". I picked that phrase because although I'm not the fastest runner and I may never win a race or even an age group award I try my best and I never cross the finish line without knowing I earned the medal I receive. This phrase also translates into other areas of my life such as my relationship with Allan. We fought hard to get to where we are today as a couple and hopefully all that hard work and our continued work will make for a long, happy marriage!

Do you have a medal hanger or bib holder?
If not where do you put your medals and bibs or do you even keep either?

  3. that looks so great! So much nicer than the random box that hold all my stuff...and some drawers...and my desktop...

  4. I wish I kept my first bib... but in an anti-clutter rage I tossed it out with the rationale that I had a picture of me wearing it =)

I love how your medals and bibs are displayed! When I earn my medals I'll be sure to display them proudly, too.

  5. It looks great! Right now I have my medals in boxes somewhere. P & I are planning on making a wooden medal holder when we have spare time...so hopefully in a few years after some of our home improvement projects calm down. ;)

  6. Bibs go in the scrap book with pictures and other random stuff from each race. I was hanging my medals on the light over our kitchen table, but my husband made me take them down when we had friends over the other day. Guess I need a real medal holder.

  7. My medals still clang every time I open my own closet. I want to get a black curtain rod, but never remember to go looking.

The holder looks awesome! And I agree that it's in a good place for motivation.

  8. That's awesome! A medal and/or bib hanger is on my list of things to get eventually... I keep hoping I'll win one in somebody's giveaway. :) Definitely great motivation to see it hanging there every day!

  9. I love it, especially the bib holders. My medals used to hang in my daughter's room before she was born, now they are in a box or a pile on my desk and bibs are on ring holder. I need a better place.

  10. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a medal holder. Probably because I don't have any medals! It looks great.
I also like what you say about marriage being hard work. I think if more people realised that, we'd have a lot less divorces.

  11. LOVE your phrase on your medal hanger!! Have both! My SIL made me my bib holder and I'm going to replace the hooks with clips so that ALL my bibs will be able to fit on it! Juust finally put my medal hook up, but need a different spot for the bibs!

  12. Sheesh! That is so neat... love the way it looks and you certainly have a lot of medals and bibs to really show off your new wall of achievement. Love it!

  13. Aaaw, I like how you compare it to your marriage too :) I have a medal hanger and I love it! Oddly, we have ours in our closet….it would make sense if you saw it! It's so cool to look at everything you've done!

  15. I don't have a medal hanger thing...I put my medals and bibs in a red glitter picture box my step mom gave me a few Christmas's back. It has three photo spots on the lid (for very special race pics) and is quite roomie. And not only does it allow me to smile like a school girl when I open it to add another medal but it allows me to remember the special someone who gave me the box!!

  16. I need both. My bibs are currently hanging from a paper clip on the wall by year and my medals are on the door of my office. Love yours!!

  17. Very nice! I personally don't have a medal hanger, I string them from the the rod inside my closet - and, yes, they jingle when I open the door to get something. I did, however, make a medal hanger for Hubby's medals, and it doesn't look half bad if I do say so myself - although not a fancy metal one. It is wood. :) No bib hangers, I tend to chuck those. Sad, I know, but I could never think of where to put them.

  21. Love the display and the reason behind the words on your medal hanger. My medals hang in my workout room and my bibs are collaged in a large frame (also in my workout room).

  22. Love that! I just have my bibs on a bulletin board and my medals are hanging on nails. I love the words you chose. Very inspiring and appropriate.

  24. My hubby surprised me with a medal hangar about a year ago, and hung it in the hallway - exactly where I can see it from bed LOL :) Great minds think a lot :)

  25. Love them! We really need a bib holder and medal hanger because we are accumulating a lot of both! I think that they look great, love the phrase!

  26. I have one of those hanger as well and I LOVE it! Mine says "every second counts". I love the one you have for your bibs as well. I have yet to get one of those. All of my bibs are just pinned to a cork board!

  27. I love your hangers, they look great. I don't think I've ever seen a bib one before. I have 30 years of medals ... I hang each year's worth on my closet door then at the end of the year, I take a picture of them and write a little blog post and then put them in a baggie with the year labeled. A couple times a year I take them out and look and reminisce...so many great memories. I do have a medal hanger but have never used it since I can't keep them all on there...but maybe instead of the closet door I should use the hanger for the year? Hum. Thanks for idea :).

  28. What a beautiful medal rack! I keep all mine on a stuffed animal, but it is starting to get smushed under the weight of the medals! I think it's time to get a rack! :D

  29. That looks great. And a bulletin board in the laundry room is a great idea. I might have to steal that!

  33. i have 2 allied medal hangers and i’m about to hang the 3rd (and will be having a giveaway!). my bibs are in a bibfolio-i’ve written my “stats” on the back of each and every one.

  34. I love my medal hanger too! It just says "runner" but I want to get another one with a slogan like yours. I don't always keep my bibs but I would like to get something to save them in!

  35. My medals are jut sitting in a drawer. Ought to hang it up.
Love the slogan of your medal hanger. Very apt for running and life.

  36. That looks so nice! I have a medal hanger that I had made to say "Love to Run". I got that from my Prefontaine necklace and shirt - and he's my idol, so it HAD to be that. Sadly I haven't hung it up and it's been almost a year that I've had it. Currently my medals are in a shoe box. My bibs are in a scrapbook. I'm slacking on that project, but at least they are some place for the time being. I'm such a race pack rat!
