Love on the Line Book Review

Love on the Line by Deeanne Gist has been one of the best fiction novels I've read this year. The book takes place just after 1900 and for some reason all I could envision in my head was Little House on the Prairie. I associated several of the characters and many of the scenery descriptions with that of the fictional town of Walnut Grove that I had seen so many times on television as a little girl. We follow the story of Georgie Gail, a woman switchboard operator, who was a pioneer in her town living on her own and starting Brenham's Plumage Society. The society encouraged ladies to make a pledge vowing not to wear any hat with dead bird parts on it and by the end of the novel Georgie and her ladies had acquired over three hundred signatures. Georgie's love for birds began in her teenage years and followed her into adulthood with her yard being a haven for several birds as they mated, built nests, and raised their young. She and Luke (the undercover Texas Ranger Lucious Landrum) got off to a rocky start but as the story progresses they both soften and realize that what is happening between them neither of them can deny or entirely control. As Luke hunts the infamous Frank Comer we glimpse a window of his life as a Texas Ranger and I fell more in love with his character. I won't spoil the ending but I will say that a few things left me surprised and made the exciting conclusion all the better!

I received this book from Litfuse Publicity Group free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

About the book:

It's a Battle of Wills ... and Love Is on the Line!

Rural switchboard operator Georgie Gail is proud of her independence in a man's world . . . which makes it twice as vexing when the telephone company sends a man to look over her shoulder.

Dashing Luke Palmer is more than he appears though. He's a Texas Ranger working undercover to infiltrate a notorious gang of train robbers. Repairing telephones and tangling with this tempestuous woman is the last thing he wants to do. But when his stakeout puts Georgie in peril, he realizes more than his job is on the line.
